Standard ceiling grid size is 15/16” wide, and some ceiling grids are 9/16” wide.
For drop ceilings, you can choose between square edges (visible grid) and tegular/stepped edge tiles (minimizes the grid look, but with more complicated tile cutting) so you can find a tile that matches your style and skill set.
For most DIY-ers installing a drop ceiling is something that can be done quickly.
